Privacy policy

Last updated October 30, 2026

DiceCritic is a place to track, rate and review board games. This policy explains what we collect, what is public, who helps us run the site, and the choices you have. Questions go to info@dicecritic.com.

The short version

  • Your email address is private. We use it only to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
  • Your profile and what you add to it (shelves, ratings, reviews, favorites and logged plays) are public.
  • We don't sell your information, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and everything you've added at any time.

What we collect

Account details. Your email address, and the handle, display name and bio you choose.

What you add. Games on your shelves, ratings, reviews, favorites, logged plays (date, length, notes, scores and who played), and games or edits you suggest for the catalog.

Other players' names. When you log a play you can type in the names of people you played with. Those names appear with the play, so please only add names your friends are happy to have shown, or use first names or nicknames.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting and sign-in providers record IP addresses, browser type and request times in their logs, to keep the site running and secure. When something on the site breaks, we record the error message, the page it happened on and when, so we can fix it. We also note which days signed-in members use the site (just the date, not what you looked at) to see whether DiceCritic is working for people.

Reports and blocks. If you report a review, comment or profile, we keep the report, your reason and a copy of what you reported so a moderator can review it. The person isn't told who reported them. If you block someone, we keep that so it keeps working; they aren't told.

What is public

Your handle, display name, bio, shelves, ratings, reviews, favorites and logged plays can be seen by anyone, including people who aren't signed in, and may be found through search engines. Your email address is never shown.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in. We also set two DiceCritic-only cookies. The first is a random visitor ID, not tied to your account, so a visit is counted only once: to an invite or shared link, or to a game's page. The second is set only if you arrive through an invite or a link a member shared: a note of which link brought you (kept for 30 days) so that, if you join, we can credit the friend who invited you and add a game you played together to your profile. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We count page visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't follow you across websites.

When you open a game's page, we count the visit (once a day per game) along with the kind of place you came from, such as DiceCritic search, the feed, Google or Reddit. We keep only that category, never the address of the page you came from, and nothing that identifies you. Publishers can see these counts for their own games as totals only, for example “520 visits from search this month.” They never see who visited.

Who helps us run DiceCritic

These companies process information for us, only to provide their service:

  • Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
  • Vercel hosts the website and counts page visits (without cookies).
  • Resend delivers sign-in emails.
  • Google Fonts provides the site's typefaces, so your browser contacts Google when pages load.
  • Wikimedia Commons hosts some game photos, so your browser loads them from Wikimedia.

These providers may store information in the United States or other countries. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our members or the site.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and what you've added until you delete it or ask us to. Catalog edits you suggested stay in the catalog's history without your name once your account is deleted.

Your choices

  • Change your handle, name and bio in Settings.
  • Edit or delete your ratings, reviews and shelf entries from each game's page.
  • Block anyone from their profile, and unblock them from Settings.
  • Delete your account any time from Settings. To get a copy of your information or correct it, email info@dicecritic.com from the address you sign in with. We'll respond within 30 days.

Children

DiceCritic is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email info@dicecritic.com and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll tell members by email or on the site before they take effect.
